Hailed by the Australian Daily Telegraph as a “viola prodigy,” Australian-Korean violist Lisa Sung is a laureate of the 12th Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition and the 10th Gisborne International Music Competition. She has appeared as soloist at the Sydney Opera House and performed in world-renowned venues including Carnegie Hall, Seoul Arts Center, Berlin Philharmonie, and Royal Albert Hall.
Lisa has performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, San Diego Symphony, and the Sydney Symphony. She has worked with legendary conductors such as Herbert Blomstedt, Gustavo Dudamel, Andris Nelsons, Esa-Pekka Salonen, John Williams, and Jaap van Zweden. Her recording credits include the New York Philharmonic’s Grammy Award–winning A Gathering of Friends with Yo-Yo Ma and John Williams, as well as audio tracks for Netflix productions.
An avid chamber musician, Lisa has collaborated with distinguished artists such as Gary Hoffman, Robert McDonald, Paul Neubauer, and Donald Weilerstein, and performed at major festivals including Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra, Verbier Academy, Music@Menlo, and Yellow Barn.
Originally from Sydney, Lisa holds both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Juilliard School as a proud recipient of the inaugural Kovner Fellowship, and a Graduate Diploma from the New England Conservatory. She is a member of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and serves on the viola faculty at the University of Minnesota School of Music.
